Wiki design--a teaching tool (511)

In my biology class, I could divide the class into groups of 4-5 and assign each one to design a biology-related Wiki of their choice. For instance, some students may choose to research the genetics of a disease within their family history and design a pedigree. Another group could discuss the pros and cons of bioethical issues, such as human cloning. Another group could design a science fiction story, or stop motion movie. Another group could even do a weekly podcast of breaking science headlines. Students are exposed to positive use of technology, which they are used to using in everyday life. The great thing about a project like this is that it encourages collaboration while giving the students ownership of the project, making it much more likely that they will be engaged and self-drive their own learning. This project also allows students to make several connections to biology and real-life.
